Herry's team in Nature - Dynamical prefrontal population coding during defensive behaviours

Herry’s team has recently revealed the interdependency of two brain regions, the basolateral amygdala and dorsomedial prefrontal cortex, in excessive avoidance while no significant danger.

In human and animal, defensive behavior is a brain mechanism allowing efficient response to danger, one of these responses being avoidance.

Excessive avoidance while no significant danger is present is a marker of anxiety-linked pathologies, for which triggering neuronal mechanisms remain to be uncovered.

Herry’s team has recently revealed the interdependency of two brain regions, the basolateral amygdala and dorsomedial prefrontal cortex, in excessive avoidance while no significant danger.

These new findings, published in Nature, open new leads for treating patients suffering from anxiety by targeting precisely brain regions from where this pathology originates.
